Brief

To create a garden with a large level lawn, pool and entertaining space but also maintain access to the surrounding parkland via the top boundary gate.

Solution

The steep terrain and sheer size dictated the choice of large mudstone boulders. We used over one hundred and twenty cubic metres of rock to not only retain the steep site but also create a winding staircase from the house up the top of the garden and access to the parkland. Excavation was difficult as it was mainly bedrock, so we worked with the terrain adding garden areas to stabilise the steep banks and surrounding the pool with lots of trees and shrubs.
